It is a pleasure to announce that Finnmarksløpet will be the World Championship in long distance dog sledding in 2023. IFSS, International Federation of Sleddog Sports, has now decided that Finnmarksløpet will be the host and says they are happy that such a well-organized race will be the organizer of the World Cup, and that they look forward to the big World Cup-event in Finnmark in 2023.

In 2015, there was a waiting list to get a participant place in all senior classes. It is clearly extra fun for mushers to compete in a World Championship. A championship also means a number of delegates, special language requirements and also some marking in relation to pure bred teams.
– We are always working to improve Finnmarksløpet and we work continuously to ensure that the race is a booster for the north areas and creates positive focus on our comunities. This is something we really want to do, Haugland concludes.
The start day for FL/VM-2023 will most likely be as normal, meaning Friday in week 10. In 2023, the date will be March 10th.
