Depot bags to be used at checkpoint Jergul must be brought in the support vehicle from the start. For other checkpoints, it is optional whether to deposit them in depot containers or carry them in the support vehicle along the way.

FL 600

Participants deliver the depot bag to be used at the Masi checkpoint in the container located at Skillemoen, at Pedersens varmeervice (the same place as the veterinary check) on Thursday, March 5th between 9:00 AM and 2:30 PM.

The bag should be placed in the designated container on the site. The bags must be labeled with a visible name. Participants must sign a list to confirm that the depot has been handed in.

It is allowed to send a maximum of one (1) bag up to 20 kg per participant to checkpoint Masi.

The depot to be used at all the other checkpoints must be brought in the support car from the start.

It is the individual mushers responsibility to put his depotbags in the right room on the car.

How to brand/pack your equipment

You should pack your equipment in the best possible way with solid bags, such as nylon bags, as these prove to be of the best and safest type in terms of strength and marking (you write directly on the bag). Our experience with the use of plastic or paper bags is that these are easily cracked and are not in any way recommended. Deposits that are not properly packed and marked with drive and full driving name may end up in other places than intended. Finnmarksløpet does not take extra trouble with bags that are sloppy packed and marked!

If you choose to use cooling bags, these should be of such a design that they can withstand hard treatment.

MARK YOUR EQUIPMENT WITH YOUR NAME AND NAME OF CHECKPOINT.

You should think that there are about 45 to 50 dogfood and equipment to be transported with the trailer, so pack and mark your bags properly.

It is not permissible to send flammable or harmful liquids with the storage bags.

LAST DELIVERY IS THURSDAY, 3 PM. IT WILL NOT BE POOSIBLE FOR DELIVERY AFTER THIS TIME.

Food drop leftover/left dogs

We kindly ask handlers to bring their own rest depot as well as left dogs from the checkpoints after the mushers has left, and that those who do not have handlers to deal with other handlers. Restdepot bags that are not packaged properly and marked with name will be considered as garbage.

Handler/handler car

Finnmarksløpet recommends that all participants have handler (s) and car that follow the musher from checkpoint to checkpoint. One handler per team must meet at the race meeting. There should be at least two drivers on each car. The car should have a dog box with space for the whole dog sled.

Map

It is mandatory to have a GPS with a map and marked trail. Download from the FL website.

(The GPS must be able to be operational (have power) throughout the race).

About the maps and the trail

The majority of the trail follows the old roadways/sled trails on the plateau which are marked with Finnmarksløpet own wood markers with red top and reflex.

At the mushers meeting, special information will be given about marking, difficult sections, etc.

Trail troopers travel with snow machines from all stations a couple of hours before the leading team and ensure that the markings are in place.

It is therefore an absolutely necessary qualification to take part in a race like this that you can navigate the terrain using a map and compass/GPS. A necessary qualification along the lines of being able to take care of yourself and your dogs out there, in a 3- to 4-day winter storm with up to hurricane force gusts.

varri= mountains
oaivi= spots/mountains
cåkka (utt.tsjåkka)= tind
jåkka= river
