Kennel cough is affecting participants in the Finnmark Race

Some participants in the Finnmark Race 2026 are unable to start due to an ongoing outbreak of kennel cough among dogs in the region. Kennel cough is a contagious respiratory infection in dogs that can develop into serious illness, especially during demanding long-distance races.

“We are closely monitoring the situation and continuously assessing how to safeguard both the health and welfare of the dogs,” says Chief Veterinarian Arild Magnus Jøssund. “It is, of course, unfortunate for those who cannot start, but the safety of the dogs always comes first.”

The Finnmark Race takes the situation seriously and will continue to closely monitor the outbreak throughout the event.
