Finally the time is here – the most beautiful adventure of the winter is about to begin: the Finnmarksløpet.
Here is the program for the opening weekend in Alta city centre:
Thursday, March 5:
19:00 – Opening concert at the Northern Lights Cathedral with Alta Motettkor. The program includes presentations of the participants as well as musical performances. Tickets can be purchased here.
Friday, March 6:
11:30 – “While We Wait” entertainment with Alta Jentesmell
11:45 – Official opening of Finnmarksløpet 2026 by State Secretary Erlend Hanstveit from the Ministry of Culture and Equality
12:00 – Race start FL-1200, which this year is the Norwegian Championship in open-class long-distance dog sledding
Saturday, March 7:
12:00–16:00 – Market in Alta city centre with stands from, among others, SpareBank 1 Nord-Norge, Laks er Viktig for Finnmark, Alta Motorsenter and Bossekopmarkedet
12:00–12:40 – Theatre performance at the SpareBank 1 Nord-Norge stand
12:40 – “While We Wait” entertainment with Alta Jentesmell
13:00 – Race start FL-junior and FL-600. Both classes are Norwegian Championships this year
13:00–15:00 – Fire safety mascot Bjørnis the Fire Bear visiting
15:00 – Free concert in collaboration with Scene Nord, featuring the Finnish duo Hildá Länsman and Tuomas Norvio
Sunday, March 8:
Approximately 12:00–15:00 – Expected finish of FL-junior. Remaining teams will arrive throughout the rest of the day.
