After a successful and well-executed Finnmarksløpet in 2026, the organizer can now announce a major piece of news: Finnmarksløpet 2027 will host the World Championship in long-distance sled dog racing.
The championship will be organized as part of Finnmarksløpet, starting in Alta on March 5 next year. The World Championship is awarded by the International Federation of Sleddog Sports (IFSS), the international federation for sled dog sports.
– That the championship once again is awarded to Finnmarksløpet underlines the race’s strong international position. We have long experience in planning and conducting long-distance sled dog races, and this will be the third time we host a World Championship, says acting CEO Svanhild Pedersen.
– This is a great recognition of Finnmarksløpet. We look forward to welcoming the sled dog community from Norway and abroad to Alta, says Arne Karlstrøm, chairman of Alta Trekkhundklubb, which has the sporting responsibility for Finnmarksløpet.
