A government minister will be in Alta when the 2027 Finnmarksløpet gets under way. Minister of Culture and Equality Lubna Jaffery has accepted an invitation to open the race on Friday 5 March.
“We are delighted that the Minister of Culture and Equality wants to open Finnmarksløpet. It shows that the race matters far beyond Finnmark. 2027 will be a very special year for us, with World Championship status and a new class, and it’s a real honour to kick everything off with the minister here in Alta,” says Martin Pedersen, general manager of Finnmarksløpet.
Strong interest in registration
In 2027, Finnmarksløpet will host the IFSS World Championships in long-distance sled dog racing. The championships cover the 1200 km and 600 km distances and the junior class. The race is also adding a new class: FL-300 will be run for the first time.
Registrations show that many people want to take part. More than 100 mushers have entered the World Championship classes, and FL-300 already has 42 names on its start list.
