FL-500: Best Dog Care Award to Dre Langefeld

During the FL-500 banquet Wednesday night, Dre  Langfeld received the Best Dog Care Award. The award is the most popular award by far among mushers, perhaps with the exception of the 1st place in the race, and is awarded following a decision by the race veterinarians. They have examined all dogs at all checkpoints throughout the entire race before giving their recommendation. The other nominees for this award were Helene Gran Øverli, Mikael Jutila, Guro Krempig, Terje Svendsrud, Solfrid Håkenstad and race winner Harald Tunheim. Vet Kjerstin Iversen handed Langefeld the award.

The jury’s decision argued that Langefeld has been very efficient in providing dog care at checkpoints. She communicated well with her team and was active to inquire about advice and experience from the vets. She also behaved calm and did a thorough job with her dogs at all checkpoints and had good routines.

Langefeld, in turn, said this is a very important award for her. The dogs are “100%” important to her. – Being an immigrant from Alaska here, my dogs are the most important thing for me and they are the closest I get to a family here!
